Panthers, Warriors skate at EOSSAA girls hockey

Today in Napanee, girls hockey teams from St. Joseph’s CSS and Tagwi SS are skating at the 2020 EOSSAA tournament.

The two squads battled last week in the SD&G championship game, played March 4 in Long Sault, where the Panthers prevailed 7-2. As champion, St. Joseph’s earned an automatic entry for EOSSAA, while Tagwi qualified as a wildcard.

Both semifinals were shut-out wins, as St. Joseph’s blanked Char-Lan 6-0, while Tagwi topped Holy Trinity 2-0.

High school hockey playoffs slated for Tuesday, Wednesday

The Long Sault arena is set to host SDGAA high school girls and boys hockey playoff tournaments this week.

On Tuesday, March 3, the girls will take to the ice, starting at 8 a.m. St. Joseph’s, the top seed, will play Char-Lan in the first semifinal. That will be followed, at 9:30 a.m., by the second semi, featuring Tagwi and Holy Trinity. The championship game is booked for noon.

The SD&G champ qualifies for EOSSAA, which is booked for March 10 in Napanee.

Boys playoffs

On Wednesday, the top four boys teams from the regular season will battle in SD&G playoffs. Catholic rivals St. Joseph’s and Holy Trinity get the opening semifinal at 8 a.m., while Char-Lan and Tagwi will play in the second semi at 9:30 a.m.

The boys championship game is scheduled for a noon start. The winner earns a trip to EOSSAA, booked for March 10 in Renfrew.

The Panthers won the tiebreaker over the Crusaders, based on league playing regulations head-to-head rule. The Falcons won the tiebreaker over the Spartans, based on the point percentage of earned points / total possible points.

St. Joseph’s tops high school girls hockey heading into playoffs

High school girls hockey concluded regular-season play on Wednesday in Long Sault with three games, as St. Joseph’s solidified its hold on first place heading into the playoffs.

February 12 results saw a trio of 2-0 decision, with Tagwi topping Glengarry, the Panthers blanking Char-Lan, and the Crusaders shutting out the Gaels.

The % column is a calculation of points achieved over maximum points possible, based on games played, since not all teams skated in 10 contests.

Playoffs

UPDATE: NEW SCHEDULE POSTED HERE.

The top four teams qualify for playoff action which is scheduled for February 26 in Long Sault. The following day is reserved as a snow date.

At 9 a.m., St. Joseph’s will tangle with Char-Lan in the first semifinal. That will be followed, at 10:30, by action between Tagwi and Holy Trinity.

The championship game is booked for a 1 p.m. start.

Matches will be three 15-minute stop-time periods. If overtime is needed, it will be 10 minutes of four-on-four play. Should a game still be tied, then it will be decided by a three-round shootout.

High school girls hockey skates into Long Sault

The last regular-season tournament for SDGAA high school girls hockey action is scheduled for February 12 in Long Sault.

Holy Trinity had originally been scheduled to participate, but is unable to, so the day has been pared down to three games as follows:

8:30 – 9:30 Glengarry vs Tagwi
9:30 – 10:30 St. Joseph’s vs Char-Lan
10:40 – 11:40 Glengarry vs Char-Lan

High school boys hockey resumes Wednesday in Long Sault

SDGAA high school boys league hockey action is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, February 5, at the Long Sault arena.

The slate of games is as follows:

9 – 10 a.m: St. Joseph’s vs Char-Lan
10 – 11 a.m.: Seaway vs Tagwi
11 a.m. – noon: Holy Trinity vs St. Joseph’s
noon – 1 p.m.: Seaway vs Char-Lan
1 – 2 p.m.: St. Joseph’s vs Tagwi
