Orchard Park (New York) native Ryan Leonard was named player of the game in recognition of his 2 goals and 1 assist.

Mikaël Bissonnette (the game’s second star), Graham Robertson, Zachary Power, and Nico Pozzebon each also iced a three-point effort (1 goal, 2 assists).

Etienne Agius-Pease notched what turned out to be the game-winning goal at the 13:39 point of the first period. He also added two assists.

The visiting Royals, with the superior record, opened the scoring just 78 seconds into the contest, but the Glens responded with five straight tallies in the frame.

Maxime Desjardins potted one goal and recorded one assist, while Zachary Bigras chalked up a helper to round out the list of Alexandria point-getters.

Tyler Desjardins backstopped the victory, credited with 18 saves.

Wins have been tough to come by during the 2019-20 season for the Glens, who finish the week with a record of 6-22-3, for last place in the Martin Division.

The team was scheduled to play on the road against the lowly Athens Aeros (0-29-2) tonight, January 18, but the game was postponed due to weather and road conditions.

It’s the second straight Saturday that Alexandria has seen Mother Nature nix their planned hockey action, as last week the Glens had their contest with the Char-Lan Rebels postponed.

On Thursday night in Casselman, the Glens fell 3-2 to the Vikings (20-12-2). Nicolas Corry had the lone marker for Alexandria, assisted by Bissonnette. Desjardins took the loss in net, despite making 22 saves.

Mosquito Wildcats capture NCAFA ‘B’ championship

Today in Nepean, the Cornwall Wildcats mosquito football team came from behind to triumph in the ‘B’ championship final, prevailing 22-8 over the South Gloucester Raiders.

The young footballers found themselves trailing 8-0 for much of the first half before rallying to tie by the break.

Coach Chris Leonard maintained a simple middle run game in the second half that negated the weather and played to the size advantage of the ‘Cats. The Cornwall side managed to control the ball with long offensive possessions, as a result, keeping the Wildcats offence on the field whilst wearing down the Raiders defence.

Meanwhile, Cornwall’s defence was solid when called upon, stopping South Gloucester cold, when they did get the ball.

Ben Jackman accounted for Cornwall’s points, set up by inside runs afforded by the Wildcats dominating offensive line.
