For the second straight year, the senior women’s soccer team from Dunvegan is the champion of the Glengarry Soccer League. The Blue Shirts completed the campaign on Thursday night, running the table unbeaten.
The final series, a two-game sweep, was capped off with a 1-0 win over Laggan, the lone goal scored by Ava Gandia in the 35th minute.
In addition to the playoff championship trophy, Dunvegan won first place during the regular season as well as best defensive team honours. The squad also saw individual members win as top scorer and best forward, and tie for best goalkeeper. (See this post for details on awards.)
Last night in Dunvegan, the home side senior women’s soccer team got a goal from Alexia Chaumont to pace the Blue Shirts to a 1-0 victory over Laggan. The win gave Dunvegan the series lead, in the best-of-three Glengarry Soccer League finals.
The second match is scheduled for Thursday evening, on the pitch at Lochiel, starting at 8:30 p.m.
The Glengarry Soccer League’s senior women’s championship will be contested by Dunvegan and Laggan, the top two teams from the regular season.
It will be a stiff test for Laggan, as Dunvegan completed the summer with a perfect record of 12 wins in 12 outings.
Game one of the best-of-three finals is set for Tuesday, August 20, on the pitch at Dunvegan, with the second match slated for Thursday night on the Lochiel field. Should a third game be needed, it will go August 27 in Dunvegan. All are 8:30 p.m. starts.
