SJ Panthers football team ends season with EOSSAA silver in Kingston

The high school football season officially came to an end for the SD&G champion St. Joseph’s Catholic High School Panthers on Thursday in Kingston, as the boys took silver in a 35-7 loss to Holy Cross in the EOSSAA final.

Played in chilly conditions at Queen’s University’s Richardson’s Field, the game was 27-0 at halftime. The Panthers got on the board late when quarterback Brodie Fairbarn connected with Bruce Nicoll for a touchdown. Cole Fraser-Dupuis booted the PAT.

Panthers high school team advances to EOSSAA football final

One local high school is still playing football this fall, as the SD&G champion St. Joseph’s Panthers are on to the EOSSAA championship final to take on Kingston’s Holy Cross.

Last week, playing in Beckwith in the semifinal versus the Brockville league winners the North Grenville Knights, the Panthers scored a 31-10 victory.

To put it mildly, it’s unexpected for a high school football team out of SD&G to score a victory outside of the local league, so the November 15 triumph for the Panthers can fairly be characterized an upset.

UPDATE: New date and time! The EOSSAA final is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 at Richardson Field (Queen’s University). St. Joseph’s is considered the home team. Opening kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
