Team Atlantic claims ball hockey title

The Atlantic team won the 2019 ‘A’ championship of the Alexandria Ladies Ball Hockey League last Thursday, prevailing in the third game of the best-of-three championship series over Team Molson.

The teams exchanged results in the earlier action, with Atlantic winning the opener 4-3 in o overtime, before Molson took the second contest 2-0.

The decider, on August 8 at the Glengarry Sports Palace, saw Atlantic turn the tables, triumphing 2-0. Chelsea Cayer had the game-winner, assisted by Catherine Glaude and Tammy MacSweyn. Brittany MacLennan iced it with an empty-netter, set up by Cayer.

Ladies ball hockey league crowns champs

Two of three Alexandria Ladies Ball Hockey League championships have been decided, with the Blue Bellas winning the ‘B’ title in a two-game sweep of Howe’s Farming, and McDonald’s Electric prevailing for the ‘C’ championship in two games over Giant Tiger.

The ‘A’ championship series currently has Molson and Atlantic tied at a game apiece.

Brittany MacLennan led the league in points during the regular season, with 30, while Sylvette Burmeister claimed honours as top goaltender with 13 wins, 5 shutouts, and a 1.13 goals against average.

Tight battle atop ladies ball hockey league

Heading into July, just a single point separates the top two teams in the Alexandria Ladies Ball Hockey League. Alexandria leads with 17 points, while Molson sits second at 16 points and a game in hand. The Blue Bellas are third (11), followed by Howes Farm Equipment (9), McDonald Electric (6), and Giant Tiger (5).

Games are scheduled to resume July 4. (No action will be played July 1, due to the Canada Day holiday.) Action continues Mondays and Thursdays evenings, through to July 22.
