Prowlers drop EOSHL finals opener, look to rebound on home ice Saturday

The Cornwall Prowlers lost the opening game of the best-of-five senior ‘A’ hockey championship finals on the road Friday night, falling 3-1 to the West Carleton Rivermen.

Jesse Fontaine’s first-period goal was all the offence that the Prowlers could muster, as the Rivermen drew even on a second-stanza marker, going on to add two more in the third frame for the victory.

Assisting on Fontaine’s tally were Devon Burns and Brian Landry.

Frederic Roy, despite making 38 saves, took the loss in net, while West Carleton goaltender Save Stathos made 30 stops for the win.

Game two of the series is set for tonight, February 22, on rink one of Cornwall’s multi-sport complex, starting at 7:30 p.m. The Prowlers will be looking to draw even and set the stage for a pivotal third contest next weekend on the road.
