The top-seeded high school boys basketball teams from SDGAA regular-season action lived up to their record in the playoffs, as the junior and senior squads from Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School captured their respective championships.
In both cases, the St. Lawrence Saints were runners-up, with the senior final going into the books as a 58-46 decision, while the junior Falcons prevailed 38-33.
Semifinal final play at the February 18 tournament which Holy Trinity hosted saw the Falcons dispatch the Glengarry Gaels, in both junior and senior action, while the respective squads from St. Lawrence dispatched teams from Heritage.
Holy Trinity and St. Lawrence were one-two in league standings this season, senior and junior. The senior Falcons remained unbeaten and are now 12-0 in SD&G action, including the regular season and playoffs.
Cornwall’s St. Lawrence High School is hosting the junior boys ‘A’ EOSSAA tournament on February 25, and both the Saints and Falcons will be there, with the latter the top seed.
Senior boys ‘A basketball EOSSAA is booked for Perth on February 25 and 26. Holy Trinity is expected to be a top-three seed.
