Heritage to host high school girls volleyball playoffs on Wednesday

Cornwall’s Heritage high school will host the ‘A’ girls volleyball playoffs for the SDGAA league, with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The February 19 tournament will begin on split courts, allowing two matches to run simultaneously.

The opening quarter-finals have Glengarry and Tagwi colliding in junior action, while the Warriors will take on St. Lawrence in senior play. The second set of quarters should begin around 10 a.m., when Char-Lan and the Saints play in junior action, and the Crusaders and North Dundas tangle on the senior side.

Junior semifinal play at approximately 11 a.m. will have the Devils take on the lowest-ranked quarter-final winner. The first senior semi will feature the host Dragons and the lowest seed winning earlier.

The second set of semifinals is booked for noon. On the junior side, Heritage will take on the highest seed winning earlier, while in senior play the Gaels will take on the highest-ranked quarter-final winner.

Championship matches are scheduled for full-court action, with the juniors taking the floor at 1 p.m., followed by the senior title tilt at 2 p.m.

Final regular-season standings

Senior ‘A’ division: Heritage 27 points (perfect record of 9 match wins in straight-sets), Glengarry 22, Char-Lan 15, Tagwi 17, North Dundas 9, St. Lawrence 4, Seaway 3.

Amongst ‘AA’ senior teams, St. Joseph’s earned 14 points, with CCVS at 17 pts and, Holy Trinity at 7.

Junior ‘A’ division: North Dundas 20 points, Glengarry 15, Heritage 17, St. Lawrence 12, Char-Lan 12, Tagwi 6.

St. Joseph’s also topped the junior ‘AA’ group with 14 points. Holy Trinity, with 12, was second, followed by CCVS with 1.

Playoffs for ‘AA’ teams were held separately, on February 18, with results not available as of this posting.
