Char-Lan Rebels skate to Battle of Glengarry win in Alexandria

A solid crowd of spectators was on hand Friday night at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria, where the hometown Glens succumbed to the Char-Lan Rebels 5-1 in round two of this season’s CCHL2 Battle of Glengarry.

The Rebs held a three-goal lead after 40 minutes of play, adding another at the 11-minute mark of the third period, as Joseph Samson scored on a power-play shot from the point that eluded Glens goaltender Tyler Desjardins. Noah Konink assisted.

Alexandria finally got on the scoreboard 61 seconds later, off a Tyson Allard tally, set up by Kyle Joly and Reese Donnelly.

Soon after, the Glens were handed their 10th man-advantage opportunity of the game. The team called a timeout to plot strategy, opting to pull Desjardins from the hemp hut in favour of an additional attacker. Unfortunately, the Rebels made them pay, as Samson notched his hat-trick goal of the game into the empty net.

Char-Lan’s other goals on the night were scored by Isaac Testani. Picking up assists were Alexandre Elie, Owen Carter, and Griffin Patterson.

Desjardins made 45 saves on the night, while Rebels netminder Ceili Picard turned aside 43 of 44 directed his way.

The Glens went zero for 10 on the power play, and Char-Lan was one for two.

This result marked the second straight loss for Alexandria to their southern cousins, as the Rebels prevailed 5-2 back in October. The teams will meet twice more this season, both times in Williamstown. Encounters are booked for February 18 and 22.
