The OPP hockey team, the Badgers as they are known, skated to an 11-5 victory over the Glengarry DHS Gaels, in an exhibition game held December 16 at the Glengarry Sports Palace, in Alexandria.
The cops lived up to their moniker, badgering the teens throughout the contest. For the Gaels, this game was their first (and likely only) hockey action this winter, as the school didn’t enter a team to compete in the high school league.
Coached by Ryan Winter and Brian Caddell, the Gaels hadn’t even had time for practice as a group, but the boys nevertheless iced a determined effort. Goaltender Nathan Noel got into the seasonal spirit, donning a Santa hat. His counterpart at the other end of the ice, Luc Sarao, was solid between the pipes for the OPP.
Ethan Attridge scored twice on Sarao, notching the boys’ first and second goals of the match, both on penalty shots. Also scoring for GDHS were John Caddell, Seamus Hardy, and Alexim Veilleux.
The Badgers were coached by Simon Hardy.
This friendly game is an annual event for the police and Gaels boys, with students and teachers from the school filling the stands to take in the action.
