Wins have been tough to come by for the Alexandria Glens of the CCHL2 this season. The junior ‘B’ hockey squad entered 2020 with a record of 4 wins, 18 regulation time losses, and 3 overtime/shootout defeats.
The new year usually brings optimism, but struggles continued last weekend, as the Glens dropped back-to-back decisions. However, on Tuesday night, playing on the road against one of the better teams in the league, the Alexandria team skated to a 4-3 victory.
Backstopped by affiliated goaltender Tyler Desjardins’ 24-save performance, the Glens scored twice in both the first and third periods, for the victory.
Kyle Joly and Elijah Boisvery led the offence, each notching a goal and an assist. Zachary Power (game-winning goal) and Nicolas Corry also scored. Reese Donnelly assisted on two tallies, with other helpers awarded to Alexim Veilleux, Andy Lightle-Blais, and Ryan Leonard.
The weekend defeats came to Winchester and Embrun, 6-5 and 4-2, respectively. Desjardins manned the hemp hut against the Hawks, facing 35 shots in the loss, while Danik Martin played against the Panthers, who fired 36 pucks his way.
Goal scorers were Graham Robertson, Nico Pozzebon, Maxime Desjardins, Corry, Tyson Allard, Lightle-Blais, and Veilleux. Leonard (3), Zachary Bigras (2), Boisvert (2), Veilleux, Allard, Pozzebon, Joly, Mikaël Bissonnette, and Power assisted.
Looking ahead, the Alexandria squad is slated to play Friday night in Renfrew and Saturday evening (8 p.m.) in Williamstown.
