Warriors, Panthers open girls hockey season 2-0

The puck dropped on the 2019-20 SDGAA high school girls hockey season on Monday in Morrisburg, where the Tagwi Warriors and St. Joseph’s Panthers both went 2-0 on the day as the only unbeaten squads.

Tagwi blanked Glengarry, in the Gaels return to the high school ice, 5-0, and topped Char-Lan 5-2.

St. Joseph’s beat La Citadelle 7-2 and edged the Crusaders 3-1.

Char-Lan closed out its day with a win, at the expense of Glengarry, 4-1. Ellie MacKinnon scored for the Gaels in what was their third loss, as the girls were blanked previously 2-0 by Holy Trinity.

GD coach Glen Campbell, who was thrilled to be able to ice a team this year and see the Gaels compete again, says he was pleased with the effort he saw from the girls. In particular, Abby Hardy in net and Lauren Noseworthy on defence had a solid day.
