Falcons fall short in Sisters’ Cup hockey game

Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School’s girls hockey team skated to a 1-0 loss in the 2019 edition of the Sisters’ Cup.

The game, played December 5 in Cornwall, featured the Falcons tangling with cross-town rival St. Joseph’s. Kate Villeneuve, who has committed to a Division 1 scholarship in the United States come 2020, scored the Panthers goal.

Holy Trinity coach Mindy Gibbs tells me that Falcons goaltender Lauren McCready, a grade 9 student-athlete, “stood on her head; she was a wall. She is definitely a high-pressure gamer.”

The Falcons squad includes six grade 9s, essentially half the team, “so the future of HT hockey is bright,” adds Gibbs.

On the Sisters’ Cup experience, which was the second annual, Gibbs calls it “another proud moment to come together as sisters in sport. It has definitely become a highlight event for our school.”
