Panthers dispatch Catholic rivals for football championship

For the second time this fall, the St. Joseph’s Panthers have beaten the Holy Trinity Falcons, and this one, coming today in Cornwall, mattered most, as the win resulted in the Red and Blue claiming the SD&G football championship over their Catholic rival.

As the players dealt with a snow-covered field and sub-zero temperatures, the Panthers prevailed 21-13 to take the title. When the teams met earlier in the season, in the Charity Bowl, St. Joe’s won 5-0.

The Panthers advance to play the winner of the Brockville league which was also holding its championship game today. There, at BCI, the North Grenville Knights triumphed in overtime, 20-14.
