Holy Trinity Falcons nab senior girls basketball crown

On Friday, the Holy Trinity Falcons scored a decisive 55-18 victory in the SDGAA senior girls ‘A’ basketball championship game on their home floor to capture the playoff title over the St. Lawrence Saints.

Mackenzie Shoniker paced the HT offence, scoring 19 points, while Annika Setterington contributed 15 points.

The Falcons’ win capped off a strong season of league play that saw the girls place first in the league, ahead of the Tagwi Warriors, who the Saints upset in one of the November 8 semifinals.

The thriller saw Tagwi lead after the first, second, and third quarters, but in the end, the Warriors succumbed to the Saints 35-31. Mackenna Brownlee had 14 points to lead the Warriors.

The other semi saw Holy Trinity dispatch North Dundas 51-16, led by Shoniker’s 15 points.
