Glengarry District High School will ice a girls hockey team this winter, returning to the game after an absence of several years.
Coach Glen Campbell, who recently finalized his roster, tells me that his group includes four girls who have never played hockey. The other team members come from community league ‘C’ or house programs. “Our main focus is on participation and having fun.”
The Gaels are one of six schools to compete in the SDGAA girls high school hockey league, with the season running from December through to February.
Playing for the Glengarry squad are Lauren Noseworthy, Zoe McIntosh, Mya Campbell, Keira Kennedy, Brianna Bellefeuille, Abby Hardy, Ella Campbell, Grace Graham, Kaisa Este, Olivia Roman, Ellie MacKinnon, and Sarah MacGillivray.
The puck drops on the girls season Monday in Morrisburg.
As has been the case in recent years, GDHS will not have a boys hockey team this season.
