Following a terrific opening day at EOSSAA in Brockville, Holy Trinity’s senior girls basketball team competed today in the playoff round, finishing the tournament hosted by St. Mary CHS with silver medals.
Coach Mindy Gibbs tells me that she is “super proud of the girls … they deserve all the accolades.”
The Falcons were seeded second at the November 13-14 competition, as SD&G ‘A’ champions. After getting through round-robin play unbeaten, Holy Trinity dispatched third-ranked Opeongo HS in the semifinal 65-57.
“That was a hard battle where the game wasn’t decided until the final 3 minutes,” Gibbs notes.
As a result, the girls were gassed in the EOSSAA championship match that followed, as the Falcons tangled with top seed and host St. Mary, which “executed a strong game plan, and we struggled to contain them.” The final score was 53-27.
The Crusaders, as EOSSAA champs, will represent the region at OFSAA, which is booked for November 21-23, in Welland.
