Char-Lan’s junior ‘B’ hockey team scored a home-ice Saturday night victory, prevailing in a shootout, over the Ottawa West Golden Knights in what went into the books as a 4-3 decision.
After a scoreless first period, the visitors potted a pair in the second stanza, a score that held through to the midpoint of the third, when Joseph Samson finally got Char-Lan on the board, assisted by Dillon Spinner and new addition Alexandre Elie, on a power play.
Just over two minutes later, Elie scored his first as a Rebel to knot the affair. Spinner and Liam MacDonald assisted.
Char-Lan took the lead shortly thereafter, when Tim Cook found the target, set up by Rylan Iwachniuk and Parker Tallman, but the Knights drew even with 65 seconds remaining in regulation time.
There was no scoring in overtime, setting the stage for the shootout, where it took five rounds for the Rebs to outscore Ottawa West 2-1 (Samson, Paul Waulhauser).
Devon Popp backstopped the victory in net, with 27 saves.
The win salvaged a weekend split for Char-Lan, which lost Friday night 6-4 in Westport.
