Senior ‘A’ Prowlers set roster for new hockey season

With the new season just days away, the Cornwall Prowlers have announced their roster as it currently stands, for the inaugural campaign of the Eastern Ontario Senior ‘A’ Hockey League, and there are plenty of familiar names.

Forwards signed are Storm Adams, Marc Andre Labelle, Jeff Clarke, Gabriel Veilleux, Mitchell Gibson, Brandon Gilmour, Brian Landry, Adam Wensink, Nick Dixon, Devon Burns, Justin Rutley, Chris Rutley, Alan Legue, and Bobby Cormier.

On defence are Ryan Sullivan, Kieran Devine, Eddie Slade, Jesse Fontaine, James Kirkwood, Kris McCarthy, Jacob Dawson, Frederic Lojen, Russ Decourcie, Justin Lefebvre, and Patrick Gilmour.

Goaltenders are Frederick Roy, Nicholas Dilabio, and Justin Lalonde.

Blueliner Fontaine hails from Martintown and is probably best known locally for his time as a D-man with Char-Lan’s junior ‘B’ Rebels. He also spent time at the junior ‘A’ level with the Cornwall Colts and la Tuque (Quebec) Loups, before playing for St. Lawrence College and then last season with the Prowlers in the LHSAO. Currently working as a bookkeeper, he is looking forward to continuing to play high-calibre hockey again this year.

Another Martintowner, Dawson, is being drawn back to the ice game. The 27-year-old last played competitively during the 2016-17 season for the FHL Cornwall Nationals, but he says he has stayed active since then in various men’s tournaments while working in the construction industry. In recent months, leading up to the new hockey season, he worked out with prospective players to get himself back up to game readiness.

Up front, Wensink, of Maxville, should be a force to be reckoned with, as should be Decourcie, who is the son of former NHL tough guy Gino Odjick. Decourcie can play defence and forward. Rutley, at 6 ft. 5 in., 240 lb., brings some size and skill to the group of forwards as well.
