Junior ‘B’ Glens seek head coach as new season looms

With the 2019-20 CCHL2 season on the horizon, the Alexandria Glens Hockey Club finds itself looking for a new head coach and general manager, as Stephan Nadeau has stepped down for personal reasons, according to Glens president Derick Viau.

The team prez tells me that in the interim he, along with Marc Rousseau and Marc Sauve, will collaborate in running the ship. Viau adds that the Glens are actively searching for a new head coach and have already spoken with some potential individuals. The aim is to have a bench boss in place for the start of the regular season, which is scheduled for September 17, in Ottawa, where the Glens will square off against the Jr. Canadians. The first home game is slated for three days later, when Alexandria will host Carleton Place.

The club is currently engaged in its exhibition schedule and training camp.

The boys opened with a 5-4 shootout win, on September 6, in Williamstown. Austin Ladouceur and Kyle Joly scored in the shootout, while regulation time tallies were netted by Joly (2), Adam Porter, and Jacob Lefebvre. Nico Pozzebon had two assists. Other helpers went to Zenin Biron, Nicolas Ouellette, Hunter MacPherson, Daniel Scott, and Jager Burge. Danik Martin and Brennan Nadeau shared goaltending duties in the win.

The next night, in Alexandria, the Rebels turned the tables on the Glens, handing the northerners a 4-3 loss. Joly scored twice for the Glens, with the other goal netted by Pozzebon, while chalking up assists were Burge (2), Scott, Tyson Allard, and Ladouceur.

Sunday, the Glens got back in the win column, topping the Richmond Royals 5-2, on the strength of goals from Joly, Allard, Zachary Bigras, Pozzebon, and Lefebvre. Assisting were Andy Lightle-Blais (2), Ladouceur, Keenan Herne, Pozzebon, Lefebvre, Porter, and Biron. Nadeau played the full game in net, making 27 saves.

The Glens are scheduled to wrap up their exhibition schedule on September 13, hosting the Royals at 8 p.m. Viau tells me that the boys are also scheduled for three practice sessions, as staff work to finalize the roster for opening day.

Anyone interested in applying for the head coach position is invited to e-mail gm@alexandriaglens.com and include a coaching resume.
