Alexandria’s junior ‘B’ hockey club opens the 2019-20 CCHL2 season on the road tonight, facing the Ottawa Jr. Canadians, and is always the case in junior hockey, there are plenty of changes the roster.
One of the challenges the Glens faced was in goaltending, with two veteran netminders returning. The team opted to keep Nicolas Rousseau, cutting Brennan Nadeau, so they could sign 16-year-old Danik Martin, from Lancaster. The goal here is to have Rousseau groom Martin to be the future backstop for the club.
On the departure of Nadeau, Glens general manager Derick Viau notes it was a tough decision for the team, but he adds that they wish him the best and hope that he catches on with another club.
On defence, the team has two rookies. The lone Glengarry blueliner is Hunter MacPherson, who has also been named an alternate captain.
Up front, six of 12 forwards are first-year junior players. Veteran Austin Ladouceur, named captain, will be counted upon to lead the group. He, along with Trysten Veilleux and Lochlan MacDonald, call Alexandria home.
In terms of team staff, there have been changes as well. Marc Rousseau takes on the mantle of head coach for the 2019-20 season, moving up from assistant coach. His assistant this year will be Stephane Ouellette. Derick Viau if the team president and general manager. Marc Sauve is the assistant general manager. Jamie Lavigne is back as the team trainer.
