GSL senior playoffs underway

The Glengarry Soccer League’s senior men’s and women’s divisions playoffs recently kicked off, with action continuing over the next few weeks.

Alexandria FC claimed the men’s regular-season title, with 21 points, edging out Glen Sandfield (20). Alexandria finished a point behind (19), while Dunvegan ended with 9 points.

Alexandria FC won its opening semifinal match last week over Dunvegan, 3-0. Glen Sandfield took the other game one semi in a 1-0 overtime decision over Alexandria. The best-of-three series are scheduled to continue tonight, August. 14, on the pitch at Dunvegan and the south field at Alexandria’s Island Park. Start time for both is set for 8:30 p.m. August 16 is set aside should a third game be needed in either series.

On the women’s side, Dunvegan won the regular season, with 36 points. Laggan finished second (27), followed by Vankleek Hill (10), Maxville (8), and Glen Sandfield (7).

Playoff semifinals on August 6 ended in decisive 8-0 results, as Dunvegan thrashed Maxville, and Laggan pounded Vankleek Hill. Last night, saw the series come to an end, with Dunvegan prevailing 5-1, while Laggan stormed to a 12-0 victory.

The championship women’s series, a best-of-three, is scheduled for August 20 in Dunvegan, August 22 at Lochiel, and August 27 (if needed) back in Dunvegan. All are 8:30 p.m. starts.
