Martintown pole vaulter Brennan Seguin scored the bronze medal at the Canadian Track and Field Championships, today in Montreal, with a 4.96-metre jump.
The student-athlete from the University of Guelph, who graduated last June from Char-Lan District High School, was trained locally by Rory Blackadder. He current trains under Gryphons coach James Sniatenchuk.
At the July 28 senior national competition, Seguin cleared the bar set at 4.81 and 4.96 m, both times on his first attempt. With the bar next at 5.11, he missed on his three tries, while two far more experienced vaulters, Deryk Theodore and Nathan Filipek, went on to take the gold and silver medals, respectively.
Born in 1999, this was Seguin’s first trip to nationals. The gold and silver medallists, both from Edmonton, are more seasoned, born in 1989 and 1991, respectively.
