For the second time in as many weeks, the Cornwall Wildcats OFC football team has scored a shut-out victory. The squad’s most recent triumph came today in Belleville, where the Cats blanked the Quinte Skyhawks 39-0.
The 2019 edition of Wildcats is now 2-1-1 on the season, competing in the province’s premier varsity football league.
The team is heavy on Glengarry content, on both sides of the ball and amongst the coaches. A number of players are products of the Glengarry Gaels minor football program or the GDHS/VCI high school teams, or both. Others come from Tagwi.
In today’s win, Schuyler Schellenberg (of Tagwi) had a pair of touchdowns, as did Ryan Stevens (Holy Trinity).
Tyler Murray recorded a safety, and Max Sabourin had a key ball recovery.
Looking ahead, the boys will be back on their home gridiron at Joe St. Denis Field, for a Saturday, June 22 game versus the Huronia Stallions. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
